TCM Development: Conference Held for Promote Internationalization of Traditional Medicines
A conference for advancing an online registry platform of traditional Chinese medicine has been held in Beijing. Organizers say they’re looking to promote the internationalization of traditional medicines.
China’s International Traditional Medicine Clinical Trial Registry is a non-profit organization recognized by the World Health Organization.
HUANG LUQI Vice commissioner, National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine “We’ve not only followed the rules of traditional Chinese medicine, but the rules recognized of the world, to prove TCM’s efficacy, and that is what the platform has been doing.”
Operated by the China Center for Evidence Based Traditional Chinese Medicine, the platform is the first cross-regional clinical trial registry targeted at traditional medicine globally.
SHI NANNAN Director, Division of Scientific and Technological, Achievements Management, Chinese Academy of Sciences “The platform has officially delivered 107 pieces of register messages to the WHO since its establishment in February 2023.”
The event was held on the anniversary of the WHO’s evaluation report of TCM in the treatment of COVID-19.
GUO DE-AN Research fellow, Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences “TCM is a combination of different herbs, not a single herb. There are many components in the system. A lot of time we call it a ‘black box’.”
Experts have opened this black box to show its efficacy.
XU HAIYU Director, Institute of Chinese Materia Medica, China Academy of Chinese Medical Science “Combining cutting-edge technology, we've made clear how TCM treatment for COVID-19 patients produces anti-viral and anti-inflammatory effects.”
WANG MENGJIE Beijing “Global demand for treatments in using traditional Chinese medicine is growing. Experts agree closer cooperation and more exchanges are needed to promote the remedies and make them more accessible around the world.”
